Summary
Semrush is all about helping you market your web content, but in terms of feature set, it extends even further than that. You gain access to almost any tool you need to do battle with others for the top spot on Google rankings.
Personally, I find that SEMrush is a frighteningly powerful tool that all businesses who depend on the web should use. There are tools for SEO, SEM, Social Media Marketing, and content writers; and then there are knowledge bases in SEO, there are tutorials, there are even experts who can do the job for you – They have everything!
At $99.95 per month lowest entry price – SEMrush isn’t ideal for everyone, yet there are certain customer segments that simply can’t afford to ignore it. It’s an ideal working platform for marketing or SEO agencies and even expert website owners who focus strongly on the SEO aspect. The price and scope of SEMrush, though, makes it a bit more difficult for smaller bloggers or businesses to fully accept in entirety.

Overall
8.8/10
For those of you who think that the Internet is just a random collection of websites, eStores and blogs dumped there for your reading pleasure, think again. The Internet, like the real world, is a cut-throat business environment. True, the average Joe will simply muddle along in it but the true businessman treats it exactly like it is – a competition against business rivals for revenue.
Most net denizens and even small businesses read the news and get impressed by the moves countries around the world are making to support cross-border trade. The Internet has long been cross border and if you expect to survive online as a business, you’ll need more than just brief knowledge of what the term Search Engine Optimization means.
In a brick and mortar store, you’ll need to assess points such as location and customer traffic. That applies to a website as well. For the most part, traffic is invisible, so you need to know what will draw your customers in – such as through search engine listings.
The Pros: What I Like About SEMrush
1. SEMrush is Fully Integrated
If you’ve ever struggled with SEO by trying to tie together data from multiple sources then it’s past time you gave SEMrush a try. It ties everything from backlink insights to keyword analysis onto a single platform. No more mucking about on 5 different websites and trying to build a cohesive SEO strategy.
Of special interest is that it includes coverage over some tools that website owners may not otherwise focus on. For example, Social Media Marketing, Paid Advertising, and Local SEO. As a whole, this is the most comprehensive SEO tool I’ve seen so far.
SEMrush Features Demo
The first thing you’ll encounter in SEMRush is your control panel showing an overview screen. From here, you can view website traffic and keywords, plus access to other sections. This brings me to the first major item that SEMrush covers, which is data.
Through SEMrush, you can gain comprehensive information not only on your own site, but of any other website existing – including your competition.

2. Powerful Keywords Tracking
It takes a lot of processing power for a service provider to track all the keywords that customers want to focus on. That’s why some SEO platforms have a lot of restrictions when it comes to updating tracked keywords.
Selling at similar pricing, some SEO tracking tools only update keyword rankings every seven days. That is a lifetime when it comes to operationally hands-on websites. SEMrush, comparatively, has daily update for keyword tracking.
3. High Data Accuracy (especially for US and Western EU countries)
There’s no point having access to a ton of data if it isn’t accurate. This is a common problem with run-of-the-mill SEO tools that are barely a customized facade that pulls data from public sources like Google Keyword Planner.
The information can be mind-boggling inaccurate, possibly leading to spectacular boo-boos. SEMrush works with clickstream data providers to ensure that doesn’t happen. The partnerships use machine learning algorithms to estimate keyword and website traffic far more accurately.
Having the right data accurately in hand can boost your SEO campaign efficiency significantly.
Cons: Things I Hope They Were Better
1. Pricing is Relatively Steep
Unless you use free SEO tools, most are somewhat expensive. Of course, the term expensive is also relative. If you use all the features that SEMrush offers, you may wring the best value out of the platform. But this isn’t always the case.
Website owners often have their own focus areas they want to spend more time on. The result may mean underutilization of the SEMrush platform, meaning money is going to waste. Unless you have a full SEO team working with it, that’s a hurdle that can’t be overcome.
If you need to look at specific SEO features alone, there are other content marketing tools you can get for lower cost.
2. Not All Data is Perfect
While this may sound a little contradictory, the data that SEMrush builds isn’t perfect. When comparing my website statistics between Google Analytics, SEMrush, and Ahrefs – I noticed that, while the clickstream partnership means excellent accuracy for US and some EU regions, other countries like India, East EU, and parts of Asia are less so and can be improved.
SEMrush Plans & Pricing
SEMrush offers 3 types of plans:
Pro – starts from $99.95 per monthGuru – starts from $199.95 per monthBusiness – starts from $399.95 per month
Aside from the analytics features, Guru and Business users are able to access older database information.

Conclusion: Powerful SEO Tools for the Pros
Personally, I find that SEMrush is a frighteningly powerful tool that all businesses who depend on the web should use. There are knowledge bases in SEO, there are tutorials, there are even experts who can do the job for you. But SEMrush is pure power at your fingertips and doesn’t overly complicate the job.
The only slight technical problem with it is a point of contention. SEMrush starts at US$99.95 per month at its most basic pricing tier. Yet on the flip side of that coin is the sheer power of what it offers.
While SEMrush isn’t ideal for everyone, there are certain customer segments that simply can’t afford to ignore it. It’s an ideal working platform for marketing or SEO agencies and even expert website owners who focus strongly on the SEO aspect.
The price and scope of SEMrush, though, makes it a bit more difficult for smaller bloggers or businesses to fully accept in entirety.
